Twiglines Original Artwork

Over the years, I’ve created a fair amount of what I call “nature art.”

It usually happens when I’m out on a hike or flopped in the grass somewhere in our forest garden.  I’ll spy a twisty twiglet or a frilly bit of lichen and think: “Oooh!  What’s that? I must touch it!  I must play with it!”

Then I’ll start gathering bits and pieces (usually whatever’s within arm’s reach) and I’ll sort of... ‘arrange’... them into flowing, meandering patterns.

In the case of Twiglines, I arranged a bunch of dead forest bits on the ground (twigs, leaves, lichen) and took a few photos.  Later, I imported one of those into Procreate on my iPad, where I began layering, painting, and blending until the whole thing felt... right.

The Procreate session took me 9 hours and 5 minutes to create 58,115 individual brushstrokes.

As for the gathering, arranging, and photographing bit...  I have no idea how long that took (time flies when you’re having fun).

This artwork is the end result of all that fiddling, layering and experimenting;  a collaboration between the forest floor and my overcaffeinated imagination.
